Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn was a Soviet and Russian author and dissident who gained international prominence for documenting political repression within the Soviet Union. His seminal nonfiction work, The Gulag Archipelago, provided a critical examination of the prison system and challenged the Soviet state. In 1970, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for the ethical force he brought to the traditions of Russian letters.
