Joel Sternfeld

Joel Sternfeld is an American fine-art photographer, educator, and writer known for his large-format color photography of contemporary life. His work, which follows the traditions of Walker Evans and Robert Frank, helped establish color photography as a respected artistic medium. Since the 1987 publication of American Prospects, his photography has explored conceptual and political themes, focusing on history, landscape theory, and the passage of time.
