Morton Smith
Morton Smith (1915–1991) was an American historian and academic who served as a professor of ancient history at Columbia University. He is widely recognized for his 1958 discovery of the Mar Saba letter at a monastery in the Judean desert. This document, which he attributed to Clement of Alexandria, contains excerpts from a text known as the Secret Gospel of Mark.
