William Osler

Sir William Osler was a Canadian physician and one of the four founding professors of Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he established the first residency program for specialty training. A dedicated bibliophile and historian, he founded the History of Medicine Society in London and helped create the Medical Library Association. His extensive personal collection of medical history texts was bequeathed to McGill University, where it is housed as the Osler Library.
