Beginning with the early years of Foster’s career, the conversation traces the various reasons why some projects remain unbuilt – from politics and finances to misleading competition guidelines. It becomes clear that while a project may never come to fruition, elements from its design can later be incorporated into realised projects, perhaps even decades later. The book includes a small selection of drawings from Foster’s archive that illustrate some of the projects discussed.
